Chair Joyce Kale-Pesta: Mahoning County Democratic Party fields impressive slate of candidates for 2020 General Election

“I’m both pleased and proud to announce that the Mahoning County Democratic Party is fielding one of the most impressive slates of candidates in our history,” MCDP Chair Joyce Kale Pesta said after the Mahoning County Board of Elections certified nominating petitions for the March 17, 2020 primary election submitted by 14 Democratic candidates for state and local office as well at Tim Ryan who is seeking reelection to the U.S House of Representative.  The Party’s candidates will not face primary opponents. “Because our candidates do not have primary opponents the General Election campaign starts now,” Chair Kale Pesta remarked.

The slate includes the Democratic officials whose commitment to fiscal responsibility, vision, and unquestioned personal integrity enabled spurred business development and job creation in Mahoning County, 58th District State Representative Michele Lepore-Hagan who is seeking her fourth term in the Ohio House and first-time candidate and Youngstown Public School teacher Chris Stanley who is running for the 59th District seat in the Ohio House.

The slate is rounded out by three widely respected jurists, Judge Cheryl L. Waite of the 7th District Court of Appeals, Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge John M. Durkin, and Domestic Relations Judge Beth A. Smith. In addition to these outstanding incumbents, our own Joe Schiavoni will be seeking a seat on the Mahoning County Court in November.

David Ditzler elected President of Mahoning County Commissioners

Shout out to David Ditzler on his election as president of the Board of Mahoning County Commissioners. He and Commissioners Carol Rimedio-Righetti and Anthony Traficanti have done an incredible job managing the county and fostering growth during challenging times.

Congratulations, David, we look forward to learning more about how you and your colleagues have dealt with the devastating cuts to local government funding made by Republicans like Don Manning who control state government...Thanks for finding ways to keep our families and neighborhoods safe, attract new business and jobs, and care for our seniors, veterans, and kids.

David issued the following statement after being elected:

"Proud to say that my colleagues elected me president of the board this year. I’m Looking forward to putting together a series to show how the state and federal government has devastated local communities budgets. And how the pillage of local government’s funding, has created an increase in local levies and devastated infrastructure improvements countywide."
